_{Seding® Solar Light}

The Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation exhibited the Seding® solar powered light and the Kgalagadi Sand Building Block Technology(KSBB) at the Ghanzi Agricultural Show held from 04 to 08 July.  The show was held under the Theme; “Sustainable Economic Diversification Beyond 50 Years Through Green Technology.”

Members of the public who visited the BITRI stall were impressed with the KSBB technology as it serves as a direct solution to the real life problem of lack of sustainable shelter in the area.  Regarding the Seding® solar light which has three promotional lights installed at the Maun hitchhiking spot in Ghanzi, members of the public complained about its luminance. Promotional materials on climate change, technology transfer, careers in BITRI as well as the BITRI comic books; Nanoworld and Nanoverse were distributed to the relevant audience.

The visitors to the stall were enlightened on the mandate, vision and BITRI thematic areas of research. It emerged clear that BITRI is fairly known mainly through television.

On another issue, while at Qabo, BITRI came across a community run brick yard manufacturing building blocks out of the kgalagadi sand mixed with cement and some bricks made of cement and crusher dust reported to be mined in a private property in Ghanzi.
