Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation has been selected as the National Designated Climate Technology Entity (NDE) for the UN Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN). The CTCN stimulates technology cooperation, technology transfer and development especially to developing countries.
As an NDE, BITRI’s task would be among others to coordinate the process of updating and implementing the Technology Needs Assessment of 2004 and preparing and submitting requests for support to the CTCN for climate technologies that are applicable to Botswana. The core mandate of CTCN is to manage and respond to technology requests from developing countries, promote collaboration and access to information and knowledge to accelerate technology transfer, and to strengthen networks, partnerships and capacity building for climate technology transfer.
The CTCN is currently hosted by the United Nations Environmental Programme based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
