ICTAssociate@BITRI TO BE LAUNCHED THIS MONTH

The ICTAssociate@BITRI Programme will be officially launched on Thursday June 18, 2015 at the BITRI Campus in Kanye, Mputsane Industrial area. The launch will serve to introduce the programme to various stakeholders amongst them Dikgosi, political and administrative leaderships, and the concerned communities.

The ICTAssociate@BITRI is a competency-based two year programme where young Batswana will be involved in BITRI research projects aimed at developing them in an array of competencies in ICT including planning, starting and operating a small business in the ICT sector. The programme aims to develop ICT technical know-how and also qualities leading to self-esteem, critical thinking and problem solving skills needed for an effective management of a start-up business. Emphasis will be placed on innovation, market research, financing business opportunity identification, goal setting, business planning, presentation skills, time management and day to day activities of owning or operating a business.

The ICTAssociate@BITRI was set up in response to the Government of Botswana’s commitment to reducing youth unemployment as well as diversifying the economy. There are sixty (60) participants in the programme, with twenty (20) based at the BITRI B, Palapye and Kanye campuses, respectively. The Associates group based at BITRI B started on 7th April whilst the Palapye and Kanye groups started on 7th May 2015.

The programme is coordinated and facilitated by the Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) with support from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology.
