His Honour the Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi together with the Minister of Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Eric Molale, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ms Botlhogile Tshireletso and other senior government officials attended the Seding® Solar Lights demonstration at Maranyane House.
The purpose of the visit was for BITRI to show progress in the improvement of the Seding® Solar Lights, a project which BITRI first commenced in partnership with Commlight, a division of the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS).
The Vice President has had familiarisation with the early version of the Seding® Solar Light, having officially launched the installation of the first batch of the 800 lumens in Diphuduhudu in December 2014. BITRI has since designed its own light with new characteristics, amongst them higher light intensity and these are envisaged to be produced in the assembly plant in Kanye. He applauded BITRI on the enhancements on the light and expressed optimism in its uptake in the market. Together with other senior dignitaries, the Vice President promised BITRI support in advocating for the use of the Seding® Light and other BITRI outputs by Government departments and functions.
The event was also graced by PS Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development Mr Dikagiso Mokotedi, PS Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Ms Kebonye Moepeng, PS Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Molefi Keaja, Gaborone City Clerk Mr Mpho Mathe, BITRI Board Vice Chairperson Dr Ditshupo Maje, Coordinator Poverty Eradication Programme under the Office of the President, Ms Bernadette Malala and businessman Mr Satar Dada.
