BITRI participated in the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) week exhibition in Kang which began on the 11th August and ended yesterday, 13th August. This was part of the STI month which was launched on the 4th of August by The Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology (MIST), Hon. Nonofo Molefhi. The STI month is an initiative of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Science and Technology Ministers which seeks to build awareness and nurture interest in Science, Technology and Innovation as well as encourage investment in research and development (R&D) which is very low in the region. The theme of the month long commemoration is: “Research, Science, Technology and Innovation: the solution to current socio-economic challenges.
BITRI had set up a stall and briefed stakeholders on the mandate and projects being undertaken. The Kgalagadi sand Building Block (KSBB) as well as the Seding® light were a hit with those who visited the stall. Several institutions exhibited at the events including, BIUST, UB, BIH as well as other government departments whose mandate is in science and technology.
Events for the Science month continue next week with the BIH Vendor Day which seeks to showcase home grown innovations especially those emanating from institutions and organisations.
