Professor Shedden Masupe assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer with effect from October 2017. Prof Masupe joined BITRI in the position Executive Director – Technologies and as Deputy CEO in July 2014. His responsibilities included leading, managing, directing, coordinating and supervising all research and development undertaken by BITRI in the areas of Information Systems & Technologies, Energy, and Electronics & Communications as well as the Information & Technology and Design Departments. He graduated with a BSc in Mathematics and Physics from Mount Allison University, Canada in1993, and a BSc Eng., Electrical Engineering (Communications and Fields) from University of New Brunswick, Canada acquired in 1995. He also has an MSc in Electronics Engineering (Digital Systems) from Cardiff University, and a PhD in Electronics Engineering attained from Edinburgh University in the UK. Prof Masupe is a highly driven and experienced executive with a sound track record acquired over 20 years leading academic and research teams towards fulfilment of corporate strategy objectives and organizational mandates and he also possesses strong competencies in the areas of Project Management, as well Cultural Change and Enterprise Architecture. His leadership pedigree is evidenced by strategic level participation in a number of executive committees of reputable technology and academic organisations such as BITRI, BoFiNet, BUAN and UB, leading the team that formulated the BITRI organisational strategy, stakeholder management at all levels of the organization, and providing mentorship to professionals in the ICT field, leading research and teaching activities at UB as HoD of Electrical Engineering Department as well as Associate Dean Computer Engineering BIUST College of Engineering and Technology. Prof Masupe’s industry experience cover his stint as Senior Consultant for ICT Consultants engaged by Botswana Telecommunications Authority (BTA) to draft a National Broadband Strategy. He has also served as Project Manager at ACHAP, Botswana Global Libraries Project and was responsible for leading impact assessment of the Sesigo Project and as a Consultant forming part of a team responsible for developing strategy for Government Implementation and Coordinating Office (GICO) tasked to develop and deliver of Project Management Training for Government officials. From 2004 to 2014, Prof Masupe was Coordinator of the UB CISCO Networking Academy (Regional Academy) responsible for managing the regional academy and training of instructors for local academies. He was also ASIC Design Engineer at the Edinburgh-based ST Microelectronics in the Imaging Division responsible for setting specifications and top-level design register-transfer level (RTL) of digital imaging co-processors and systems as well as field-programmable gate array (FPGA) prototyping of designed systems. Prof Masupe served as Board Member for BoFiNet and as Council Member at BUAN. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Professional Engineer registered with the Engineers Registration Board as well as a member of the Botswana Institute of Engineers.
