BITRI hosted the Minister of Infrastructure Science and Technology Honourable Nonofo Molefhi on a facilities tour at the BITRI facilities [former RIIC campus]and the BITRI campus with an objective of updating him on the progress of various aspects of upgrades undertaken on facilities that BITRI inherited from predecessor institutions and the envisaged usages of refurbished facilities.
BITRI CEO, Professor Torto gave an overview of the envisaged renovation and led the delegation during the tour. Prof Torto explained that one of the workshops is being renovated with the goal of being used as an assembly plant for the Seding® light, which would enable BITRI to have control of the process and also improve it.
“The other workshop has state-of-the-art equipment which can benefit the Seding® light project and other projects that BITRI might embark on. There is also the Mmakgodumo Lodge and Conference Centre which is envisaged to be used as a training facility,” added Prof Torto.
“BITRI has also accommodated an association of retired nurses in one of the office blocks. The association is a not-for-profit and voluntary organisation that helps in providing counselling and care to people living with and affected by HIV/ AIDS in Kanye. BITRI has given the association office space free of charge as part of its efforts to give back to the community,” emphasised Prof Torto.
The delegation also visited the ICTAssociates in the Kanye offices where the Minister and his entourage got to appreciate the progress in developing the Morabaraba application and an e-education application.
