BITRI Receives Funding for SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance

Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI) has received funding worth £21,722.00 from the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to continue work on genomic sequencing and surveillance of SARS-CoV-2. This funding will be administered through extension of the TIBA framework collaboration agreement. Part of this project involves training of interns for a period of two months. The training commenced on the 21st of March 2022. The interns will be hosted under the Biotechnology unit in the Nanomaterials Department and will be trained on SARS-CoV-2 Nanopore whole genome sequencing. During their tenure, the interns will learn molecular biology skills and Bioinformatic analysis of sequencing data.
